Esme Arias-Kim
Esme Arias-Kim,14, is a Merit Scholarship Fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy, a training center for advanced pre-college students and studies violin with Almita Vamos. She made her solo orchestral debut at the age of 10 with the Oistrakh Symphony and was featured on Chicago’s classical radio station WFMT’s “Introductions”. Other solo appearances include performances with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Ottawa Chamber Orchestra, Northeastern Illinois University Orchestra, Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra,
Accademia d’Archi Arrigoni Orchestra as well as solo recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, 92Y New York, Musikferien am Starnberger See, Germany, and Palácio Foz, Portugal. Esme is a first place winner in competitions such as the New York International Artist Association, Walgreens National Concerto, Sejong Music, Lisker Music Foundation Young Artists Scholarship, Enkor International, Confucius, Depaul Concerto Festival, Chicago Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competition and most recently received Grand Prize in the junior division of the 23rd Annual Sphinx Competition(2020). She will also participate as one of four finalists in The Crain-Maling Foundation CSO Young Artists Competition for a chance to solo with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She has received lessons from Julia Fischer, Vadim Gluzman, Grigory Kalinovsky, Mihaela Martin and Ilya Kaler as well as the Borromeo Quartet. Outside of playing the violin, Esme enjoys drawing, performing magic, playing piano, running, Star Wars and spending time with her sister.
