Ana Isabella España, an 18-year-old violinist from New York City, began her musical journey at the age of four at Opus 118’s Harlem School of Music. She graduated from Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School High School, where she studied under Ms. Lynelle Smith. She is currently in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange program, majoring in psychology at Columbia University while continuing her violin studies with Professor Masao Kawasaki at The Juilliard School.
Isabella's exceptional talent has garnered her numerous accolades, including First Prize in the 2024 Sphinx Competition’s Junior Division, the National Silver Prize at the 2023 Music Teachers National Association Senior Strings Competition, and a 2023 YoungArts Award in Classical Music/Violin. Recognitions also include the Herman and Mary Neuman Music Award from the National Arts Club, the Aspen Music Festival and School New Horizon’s Merit Fellowship, and an award for Outstanding Leadership in Music from Kaufman Music Center. Isabella has enriched her musical prowess through masterclasses with luminaries such as Midori, Miriam Fried, Ani Kavafian, and Li Lin, among others.
Isabella’s performances have mesmerized audiences nationwide with appearances on NPR's From the Top, Good Morning America, Telemundo, and The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she appeared alongside maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin, performing Florence Price’s Fantasy No. 2 in F-sharp minor and discussing her co-authored book, “Who is Florence Price?” Additionally, she has collaborated with distinguished artists including Joshua Bell, Charles Yang, Peter Dugan, Orli Shaham, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Isabella currently serves as Concertmaster for the Grammy-winning New York Youth Symphony Orchestra. She previously served as Concertmaster for the New York Philharmonic Youth Festival Orchestra under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel and for Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) during a South American tour under the direction of Marin Alsop. Isabella's achievements and upcoming ventures undoubtedly position her as a rising star in the world of music, with her talent and passion continuing to inspire audiences globally.
